Summer is my favorite time of the year. Well, Summer and Christmas are kind of 1 and 1A, to be honest about it. I tend to get a little melancholy towards the end of it, and start dreading the down coats and snowy boots that are on the horizon. Fall is great, but I never get present to that fact until I’m in the middle of it. Football, Autumn colors, Halloween, Thanksgiving…all fantastic.
It ain’t summer.
The days are winding out now and I’m prepping for Sarah’s & my annual LBI trip (that’s “Long Beach Island” for those not in the Jerseyknow and it’s different from just plain ol’ Long Beach, which is just off LONG Island and part of New York State. Confused enough yet?) and by this time 2 weeks from now, the melancholia will be running rampant. So now is the time to celebrate. I just keep reveling in the joys of Summer…
The beach, heat, baseball, shorts, Long Beach, Jimmy & Patty’s house/boat/kids/conversation, Good Humors, watermelon, the Penguin Ice Cream Parlor, LBI, the Woodstone-Grove Street block party, those days of soda and pretzels and beer, burgers, shrap-dogs, air conditioning and ceiling fans, lying in damp grass, sunshine until 9:30 PM…
I could go on.
PS — I won’t be posting much, if at all, next week. Just so ya know…
I like summer, too. The Yankees provide the drama. The Mets provide the comedy.
Har-de-har. Let’s talk about 1989 through 1993, shall we?
You really want to talk about 1993? Or 1992, for that matter? Come to think of it, 1991 wasn’t exactly a good year for the Mets.
True. Sad, but true…
ummm…..when have been lying in damp grass???
